What should I wear?

First and foremost you need to feel comfortable and confident on your shoot so should pick clothes that make you feel good. If you are struggling with colours or styles, then please do not panic. I have compiled a few Pinterest boards that hopefully will be of use and give you some inspiration. These will be sent to you once you have booked your session with me.

How long will it last?

My full shoots tend to last between 2 and 3 hours depending on the location and the age and attention span of your child(ren). We tend to spend a lot of time playing so that the children don’t feel uncomfortable or are too aware of the camera. I also welcome snack breaks as know that the magic formula for a happy child includes a full tummy! If you have a baby with you then we may need to allow longer to account for naps, feeding and nappy changes. This is absolutely fine – I am flexible and would rather not tie myself down to a specific time. The only time we have to stick to certain times is when we do mini shoots, where the time limit is half an hour.

What do I need to bring?

If you or your children want to bring a change of clothes to mix up the photos, then that is completely your choice, but can make for a nice variety in pictures. If your child has a special teddy then you are welcome to bring him or her as my philosophy is that this experience is all about capturing the essence of your child as they are now, and if right now they are inseparable from teddy, then please feel free. I cannot tell you how many photos I have of my daughter with her trusty Twinkle Bear grasped in her hand! It is also important to bring drinks and snacks as running around and playing can be hungry and thirsty work! I will also bring some ‘special’ snacks for the children (with your permission of course) as I find that ‘special’ snacks work wonders when encouraging children to participate if they are flagging a bit! You may also want to bring wet shoes, a towel and brush if we do a wet shoot and end up having a water fight in the river, or umbrellas, wellies and coats if we do a shoot in the rain! You never can tell in this country what the weather is likely to do!

What do I need to do before the shoot?

Absolutely nothing! Once you have booked, provided me with a little bit of information about your family and paid then you leave all the hard work up to me. I will be in contact through your preferred method (either telephone or email) the week before and we will will discuss the location for the shoot. If you have a special or important place of interest where you would like the shoot to take place, then please feel free to mention it. If not, then I will be able to suggest some locations. I am based in Hampshire and happy to travel within the county. My locations will depend on the personality of your children and the kind of photographs that you are hoping for (whether adventurous, playing in water, jumping in muddy puddles etc). We will discuss all of this during our chat the week before though so we both feel happy with the type and location of shoot.

Can I bring my dog?

I absolutely love dogs and fully believe that they are an important member of the family. I would love to welcome well-behaved dogs at your shoot and capture them with you (I will bring special treats which hopefully will encourage them to ‘play ball’). The only time your dog would not be able to attend unfortunately is if we are at places where dogs are not permitted (e.g. National Trust, Hilliers, Lavender Fields etc). If you have any further questions about bringing your dog, please do not hesitate to ask!

What if it rains?

I will keep an eye on a range of weather forecast which we can discuss during our chat the week before the shoot. I am happy to shoot in the cold (so long as everyone is toasty and wrapped up warm) and slight rain as this can make for excellent muddy / welly / muddy puddle shots. We will need to rearrange the shoot if the weather conditions make it impossible to proceed though. This will be at no extra cost to you.

What if we cannot make it?

I understand that children and babies get poorly, sometimes at the most inconvenient of times. I am happy to reschedule the shoot at no extra cost, but I would really appreciate as much warning as possible, preferably 24 hours.

How far are you willing to travel?

I am based just outside Southampton in a town called Chandlers Ford and I have a radius of 12 miles / 20 km. Beyond that, I am more than happy to travel but will be charging 20p per mile.

How many people can we include in our shoot?

The more the merrier in my eyes. I don’t charge extra for additional family members. I have a limit of six for a mini shoot as I want the time to be able to concentrate on all the individuals as well as the group shots, and I would hate to rush and miss out some key moments. If you are thinking of more than six for a mini-shoot, then I would recommend either booking two consecutive sessions, or alternatively booking one normal family sessions so we have then freedom and flexibility to take our time with no rushing!

What do I do about payment?

A non-refundable booking fee of £49 (for a weekday shoot, £99 (for a weekend shoot) or £100 (for a mini shoot) is required at the time of booking and this will secure your appointment. Payment can be made via Paypal or bank transfer.
